Charcoal briquettes are a great choice for any charcoal barbecue, offering a longer, steadier burn compared to traditional lumpwood. This makes them especially suited to indirect cooking methods like ‘low and slow’, where consistent heat over time is key. Thanks to their uniform size and shape, briquettes allow for easier temperature control and an even, reliable heat source.

They’re simple to use—just layer around 5cm of Big K briquettes across your BBQ’s cooking area for standard grilling. If you’re spit roasting, add more briquettes to extend the cooking duration needed for this method.

For lighting, place a few firelighters or a splash of lighter fluid beneath a mound of Big K briquettes. Once they’re glowing, cook over the hot coals rather than direct flames to ensure your food cooks evenly without burning. Alternatively use a chimney starter with a suitable firelighter sat underneath, after 15-20 minutes (or when the coals are visibly glowing with white ash on them) turn out into your BBQ and distribute as desired using tongs.

Briquettes don’t spoil over time and can be stored for long periods. Each pack is durable and moisture-resistant, but should be kept dry for best results.
