Cooking with fire is in our most basic instincts and it started many thousands of years ago with hunters cooking their quarry over a live fire. This gave us the necessary amino acids and proteins in order for our brains to develop and become bigger bringing with it increased intelligence. Cooking with fire made us the intelligent ape!
Since then man has invented all sorts or awful ways to ruin your food such as electric hobs, microwave ovens and air fryers though we also invented kamado cookers and pellet grills which goes some way to make up for that. The Argentines also created the Asado BBQ to make cooking with fire much more manageable and therefore much more enjoyable.
So at The Shack Group we have decided to add live fire cooking to our already considerable arsenal of BBQ’s and outdoor cookers working with Dean Forge and Firepits UK as these are high quality British built to order fire cookers and fire pits. Ladies and gentleman we give you The Fire Shack!
We have ordered our Katherine Wheel Asado BBQ to have not only to display in the shop (not sure where yet but we’ll work it out) but also to run Cooking with Fire demonstration events with the first one being probably mid October where we will be inviting you to cook your own chunk of protein on the fire. Keep your eye on our socials and emails for news of that event.
So how does the Asado BBQ differ from your kettle or kamado? For a start you are cooking either over flame or burning embers and you vary the cooking temperature by moving your food as well as the fire. The cooking surface is of adjustable height whilst the fire bed can be moved around to have either flame, high heat embers or a lower heat. Cooking on an asado is much more interactive than a smoker or outdoor oven making cooking in my opinion much more fun and involved.
Cooking with live fire is also a show piece and a more social way of cooking but when done right it is also tastes much better as the flame adds a distinct and in my view delicious flavour to your food. So if you have an inkling to go back to basics there is no need to go as far back as a hole in the ground, take a look at our fire range and perhaps treat yourself to your new favourite way of cooking outside.
