The Move To A Modern Espresso Machine

For the past two years we have had a Sage Barista Express and a Sage Barista Express Impress as our demo systems at The Coffee Shack but we have now made the move to the Sage Barista Pro. Why? I hear you ask. Two reasons, firstly we can no longer sell the Express range as it’s not open to us anymore (I guess they will be phasing them out) and secondly it is time to move to the later model.

Is this model and upgrade?

I think so as the new ThermoJet heating system is not only much faster to get going it is also more efficient. The head does not heat up at all on the Pro so running the machine for a few seconds to heat up your portafilter is a must. This isn’t a big issue as you can stop the cycle by pressing the dispense button again. The steam wand gets hotter and quicker with the ThermoJet system which also requires less water to cool down.

A better inbuilt grinder

The big upgrade is the Baratza grinder that is now inside the Sage Barista Pro. The digital control panel shows you the adjustable grind settings for coarseness and volume making setting your Barista Pro up very straightforward. The digital control panel also allows you to change the temperature at your puck which if you want to experiment a bit with lighter roasts will make the Pro more useable.

There is no built in tamper but I think the Pro is more for the discerning Home Barista that will take a bit more care in their puck preparation allowing them to use a WDT tool and distributor for even better coffee extraction. I like to prep my puck using these methods as I feel I get better extraction and a deeper flavour to my coffee.

Should I buy a Sage Barista Pro?

If you are looking for an easy to setup and use coffee machine that delivers freshly ground beans through a quality single touch grinder that is fast to use after being switched on then this is the system for you. Delicious fresh coffee with minimal input but still customisable when you eventually get dragged into experimenting with your coffee which you surely will!
